Here's a link to an article in the Kaleej Times about the closing of Majlis Al-Jinn Cave.

http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?section=citytimes&xfile=data/citytimes/2008/march/citytimes_march365.xml

Does anyone know what private groups of climbers have to do to get permission to visit the cave or is it even possible now?

We need to keep this information updated because, particularly in the winter season, we get guides and visitors who want to do the cave on their own.

I can not comment in too much detail about the situation....

If you wish to organise a trip - you need to contact one of the ministries - someone can clarify which one.probably tourism.. and then put in an application - there are currently no templates or pro-formas for this application and so I can offer no more advice here...

Un-confirmed so far is that the local police along with some locals are keeping an eye on the place and that whilst someone is trained up as a warden/ranger various people will contact the police if you head up there...

if anyone knows more accurate information please let us all know...

Tony.

Judging from this video (trailer for UK reality TV nonsense - skip to the last few seconds) the Majlis is very much open - even for basejumping stunts - if you have a big enough chequebook.

The offical word is still - apply for a permit....

Some groups have been granted them..... I believe this was either just before the ban or the first group to be granted permission... I can't watch the video though... computers Sad

Tony.

If anyone has any further updated information on access can you please post it here.

Information regarding location, anchors & exit would be very much appreciated, I would be intrested in talking to anyone who has been in the cave. srcahill@gmail.com
