Oz Tony and I had a fantastic evening paddle yesterday.
We set off from the usual Qrum beach put-in and headed out around past the Crowne Plaza and in towards where the fishermen keep their boats.
From there we turned right past the old collapsed footbridge and under the new coast road bridge into the mangrove.
It was a little smelly though not bad at all. The water was dead flat and it was easy to forget we were so close to the city.
Lots of fish jumping across the kayaks. It looks a good spot for some fly fishing practice.
Unfortunately this side of the mangroves comes to a dead end which is a shame as it would be nice to paddle right through and out at the next bridge. However is was very relaxing and ended with us paddling back at sunset. Smashing paddle - definitely do it again.

Hi, We tried the other side of of Mangroves on last Thursdays high tide. Didn't take a GPS but google earth showed we probably got about 1.3 kms up towards the Qurum park area. Middle of the day meant that there was probably not so much bird and fish life visible. Certainly would be magic in the evening. Total time for a very leisurly paddle was about an hour from the put in till passing back under the bridge. Even had time to mooch across to the side you investigated and make a comparison. Bigger fish jumping on the Crown Plaza side I think. Still a very different side of Muscat and probably seen by very few.
