|Invitation to walk Wadi Bani Khalid to Wadi Tiwi (18th - 19th November 2010)
A classic traverse of the Eastern Hajar, from wadi Bani Khalid to the coastal village of Tiwi, the highest point is over 2000m, breathtaking views into green wadis and canyons.
Starting points: Wadi Bani Khalid (GPS UTM 715,262E 2,502,304N) parking place at end of road after Miqil village by the pools
17th: Wadi Bani Khalid near the pools
18th: near highpoint (2000m) near road, Driver will meet us with Water and Food.
Bring a good sleeping bag/tent.
Walking time: 14 hours with light pack up to 18 hours with camping equipment (28km)
Start of the walk:
Thursday 18th at 6:00 am, Wadi Bani Khalid pools
Date / Time: Wednesday 17th November 2010, 15:30 Hrs
*People arriving early (before 12:00pm) at Tiwi are invited for lunch at my place
Transport: 4WD necessary for the cars going into Wadi Tiwi (will be arranged beforehand)
- Bring your own camping gear, food, and plenty of drinking water, keep it in bags to be shifted to the support car which will meet at the overnight place.
- Co-drivers or guests who join another car will pay ‘petrol money’ to the driver.
- Drivers will drive the cars from Wadi Bani Khalid to Wadi Tiwi – pay for each driver will be 20 OMR. We will sort out cars in Tiwi and/or Muscat to minimize number of cars.
Grade 2 -3 A very long mountain trek, rocky, partly steep but relatively easy going. The difficulty is within the length of the walk.
• We assume participants to have experienced the character of tracks in Oman and have been on longer walks like W4 (Jabal Shams) or crossed from Misfah to Balad Seet (W9-W. The group leader will talk to participants before the walk to assure her/his fitness level. It is not a walk for beginners.
Few things to consider:
We would expect you to bring/have enough stamina to walk at 2000 meter altitude and that you have no known health issues which could give you trouble on such an exercise. As mountain rescue is not established here in Oman, one may be waiting for a long time to get to a hospital.
