Western Isle Via Ferrata

A Short boat ride off one of the local beaches takes you to Western Isle (Seen on the left in the photo to the left)

On this island is a Via Ferrata - created for the ever increasing adventure sports market that is opening up in Oman.

You start you journey on the beach and head over the top of the island to the top of the Via Ferrata which takes you along the cliffs on the back (seeward) side of the island.

Once across the Island you start at the top of the cliffs and scramble down some 20 metres to the start of the Via Ferrata.

As ever in Oman - this was done on a hot, clear skied day...

This was Brians first Via Ferrata.



		It soon gets interesting though with the route staying constantly around 100 to 150 feet above the sea, some sections are traversing and some go up and down diagonally by about 30 feet. The exposure is amazing, as is the wildlife in the sea below, we saw turtles basking and large shoals of fish, and you can regularly see sharks from here as well.


	The start of the route heads down so that you end up on the middle of the cliffs... at this stage it’s more a case of scambling in safety...
